Fit Math
Fit Math · Fit Learning Nashville · Brentwood, TN & Online
Fit Math is a one-on-one math program at Fit Learning Nashville that finds the exact skills a student is missing and builds them to fluency, so math becomes accurate, fast and automatic. Instead of re-teaching this week's homework, Fit Math repairs the foundation underneath it: number sense, math facts, place value, fractions and problem-solving. Fit Learning students typically gain 1–2 years of academic progress in about 40 hours of instruction.

Why do kids fall behind in math?
Math is cumulative. Every new skill sits on top of earlier ones. When a building block is shaky, everything built on it wobbles. For example, a student can't borrow in subtraction without solid place value, and can't solve 6x + 5 = 29 easily if multiplication facts still take effort.
Most struggling students aren't “bad at math.” They are missing a handful of specific foundational skills, often from years earlier, that were never practiced to the point of being automatic. Classroom instruction keeps moving forward, so the gaps grow.
How Fit Math fixes the problem
Fit Math starts with a comprehensive intake assessment that pinpoints exactly which skills are missing. Your child then works one-on-one with a Fit Learning instructor on a program built just for them, starting with the building blocks and working up.
Each skill is practiced until it is fluent: accurate, fast and automatic. Fluent skills are remembered, hold up on tests and under pressure, and free up attention for harder problems. Every session is measured and charted using precision teaching, so instruction adjusts to your child's progress in real time.
Signs your child may need math help
Families usually reach out when they notice one or more of these:
Early Math
- Still counts on fingers for basic facts
- Confuses place value or reads numbers incorrectly
- Struggles with time, money or measurement
- Can't say which number is bigger or smaller quickly
Homework & Grades
- Homework takes far too long or ends in tears
- Grades don't reflect how hard they work
- Teacher has raised concerns
- Knows it one day, forgets it the next
Upper-Level Math
- Fractions, decimals and percents don't click
- Word problems are much harder than computation
- Pre-algebra and algebra feel overwhelming
- Runs out of time on tests
Confidence & Attitude
- Says “I'm just not a math person”
- Avoids or melts down over math
- Math anxiety before tests
- Bright and capable, but not challenged in class
What does Fit Math teach?
Fit Math covers the full math sequence from first grade through high school. Your child starts wherever the assessment shows the gaps are.
Numeration & Number Sense
Reading and writing numbers, place value, skip counting, comparing quantities and number lines.
Math Facts & Computation
Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts and fact families, then multi-digit computation.
Fractions, Decimals & Percents
Understanding and computing with fractions, decimals, ratios and percents.
Time, Money & Measurement
Telling time, counting money, units of measurement and everyday applied math.
Word Problems & Problem-Solving
Choosing the right operation, multi-step problems and applying math to new situations.
Pre-Algebra & Algebra
Variables, equations and the fluent fact skills that make algebra manageable.
Younger than first grade? Early numeracy is taught in Lil' Fits. If your child computes well but struggles with word problems and reasoning, Fit Logic targets the thinking skills behind applied math.
How is Fit Math different from math tutoring or homework help?
Traditional tutoring helps with tonight's assignment. That can get a student through the week, but it doesn't fix why the assignment was hard. Fit Math treats the cause, not the symptoms: it rebuilds the missing foundational skills so that classroom math, homework and tests get easier on their own.
| Traditional tutoring / homework help | Fit Math | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Whatever the class is covering now | A comprehensive assessment of every foundational skill |
| Focus | Getting today's problems right | Filling the specific gaps that cause the struggle |
| Goal | Accuracy | Fluency: accurate, fast and automatic |
| Format | Often small group or general help | One-on-one with a program built for your child |
| Progress tracking | Grades and report cards | Measured and charted every session, with national norm comparisons |
Fit Math helps students who:
- Have dyscalculia or a math learning disability
- Have ADHD or other learning differences
- Receive special education services
- Have math anxiety or avoid math
- Have fallen behind grade level
- Need to fill gaps before the next school year
- Are gifted or ready to move ahead
- Want to qualify for an advanced math class
- Want speed and accuracy for high-stakes tests
What results does Fit Math produce?
Fit Learning measures progress with Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM), a nationally norm-referenced assessment system with more than 30 years of research support, so families can see how their child compares to peers nationwide.

What families say about Fit Math
Kara B.'s student set a goal of moving up to a higher-level math class, and reached it after a summer of Fit Math:

Frequently asked questions about Fit Math
What is Fit Math?
Fit Math is a one-on-one math program from Fit Learning that assesses every foundational math skill, then teaches the missing ones until they are fluent (accurate, fast and automatic). In the Nashville area it is offered by Fit Learning Nashville in Brentwood, TN, and online.
What grades is Fit Math for?
Fit Math serves students in grades 1–12, from early number sense and math facts through fractions, pre-algebra and algebra. Children younger than first grade can build early numeracy skills in our Lil' Fits program.
Can Fit Math help a child with dyscalculia or a math learning disability?
Yes. Fit Math is well suited to students with dyscalculia, learning disabilities, ADHD and other learning differences. Instruction is one-on-one, starts at the child's actual skill level, and breaks skills into small steps that are practiced to fluency.
Does Fit Math help with math anxiety?
Math anxiety usually comes from repeatedly being asked to do work that depends on skills a child hasn't mastered. Fit Math starts where the child can succeed and builds up step by step. As skills become automatic, math stops feeling hard, and confidence usually follows.
How is Fit Math different from a math tutor?
A tutor typically helps with current homework. Fit Math finds and fixes the underlying skill gaps that make homework difficult, builds those skills to fluency, and measures progress every session against national norms.
How quickly will we see results?
Fit Math students average a gain of 30–35 percentile points, typically 1–2 years of academic progress, in about 40 hours of instruction. One Nashville student moved from the 19th to the 94th percentile in math computation after 50 hours, and another from the 12th to the 81st percentile in math concepts and applications after 100 hours.
Can Fit Math help an advanced student move ahead?
Yes. Fit Math isn't only for struggling students. Capable students use it to build speed and accuracy, prepare for advanced or accelerated math classes, and get ahead over the summer.
Is Fit Math available online?
Yes. Fit Learning Nashville offers Fit Math in person at our Brentwood center and through live online sessions. See Online Services.
