Why is writing so hard for some students?
Writing asks a student to do many things at once: come up with ideas, put them in order, build correct sentences, choose words, and get it all onto the page. If any one of those skills is weak, the whole process bogs down, and the result is short, disorganized writing that doesn't show what the student actually knows.
Writing matters well beyond school, too. Employers consistently rank strong written communication among the skills they want most.
How Fit Expressive Writing works
Writing starts with the Fit Advanced Logic assessment, which evaluates grammar, story writing and persuasive writing along with the reasoning skills behind them. Most students complete a Fit Advanced Logic enrollment before moving into Expressive Writing, because clear writing depends on clear thinking: describing precisely, comparing ideas, sequencing and building an argument.
In Expressive Writing, your child works one-on-one with a certified learning coach. Instruction is systematic: students master foundational skills like grammar and sentence building before moving on to paragraphs and essays. Sessions are fast-paced and explicit, with lots of practice, immediate feedback and encouragement. Every session is measured and charted, so the program adjusts as your child improves.

Frequently asked questions about Fit Expressive Writing
What is Fit Expressive Writing?
Fit Expressive Writing is a one-on-one, evidence-based writing program from Fit Learning for grades 3–12. It teaches grammar, sentence and paragraph construction, brainstorming, organizing ideas and persuasive essays, building each skill to fluency. Most students complete Fit Advanced Logic first. In the Nashville area it is offered by Fit Learning Nashville in Brentwood, TN, and online.
What grades is Fit Expressive Writing for?
Fit Expressive Writing serves students in grades 3–12. Younger students who need help with handwriting or early literacy can start with Fit Penmanship, Fit Reading or Lil' Fits.
Does my child need Fit Logic before Expressive Writing?
Usually, yes. Most students complete a Fit Advanced Logic enrollment before moving into Expressive Writing. Advanced Logic builds the reasoning skills that writing depends on, like describing precisely, comparing and contrasting, sequencing ideas and problem-solving, so writing instruction goes further and faster. The Advanced Logic assessment, which includes grammar, story writing and persuasive writing, shows the right starting point.
Can Fit Expressive Writing help a child with dysgraphia, dyslexia or ADHD?
Yes. Fit Expressive Writing works with many students who have dysgraphia, dyslexia, ADHD or other learning differences. Instruction is one-on-one, starts at the child's actual skill level, and breaks writing into small steps that are practiced until they're fluent.
What's the difference between Fit Expressive Writing and Fit Penmanship?
Fit Penmanship builds handwriting itself: fine motor skills, letter formation, size and speed. Fit Expressive Writing builds written expression: grammar, sentences, paragraphs, organization and essays. Some students benefit from both.
Will Fit Expressive Writing help with school essays?
Yes. Rather than editing one assignment at a time, Fit builds the skills behind every essay: planning, organizing ideas, writing strong sentences and paragraphs, and making a clear argument. As those skills become fluent, school writing gets faster and better.
How quickly will we see results?
Fit Learning students typically make 1–2 years of growth in as little as 40 hours of instruction. Progress is measured every session, so you can see it from the start.
Is Fit Expressive Writing available online?
Yes. Fit Learning Nashville offers Fit Expressive Writing in person at our Brentwood center and through live online sessions. See Online Services.
